Looking for a sub-£1000 do-it-all bike? Cycling Weekly reckon that you couldn’t go far wrong with the latest Contend SL 1, calling it a “superb bike for its price” and delivering a fantastic 9/10 score in their recent review.
Cycling Weekly, the UK’s largest weekly cycling publication, were impressed with the aluminium machine’s ability to smooth out the road, a much-needed feature for any commuter or beginner rider. Tester Symon Lewis noted “I wasn’t buzzed out after a couple of hours on typical wrecked roads of Surrey and Hampshire”, helped by the innovative D-fuse technology in the seat post.
The handling of the Contend was also mentioned, as Symon Lewis said it “remained steady, controlled and assured” at all speeds, and found the cornering to be stable and precise, “even on initial turn-in, I knew the bike wanted to go in the direction I was asking.”
That isn’t to say that the Contend can’t bring excitement, as he claimed he “had fun trying to find the limit, which I never did find.” Overall, the excellent review summed up the Contend as “a superb bike for its price.”
